Bowling Green is in the Northwest corner of Ohio in Wood County. It is directly off 1-75, nearly 20 minutes south of Toledo. Best known for Bowling Green University or BG, Bowling Green also has a thriving downtown scene and makes a great alternative to staying in downtown Toledo.

Budget hotels are a dime a dozen when it comes to places to stay in Bowling Green. However, the Mid Mod Retreat is fabulous for a luxury experience that won’t break the bank. Your experience begins with interacting with your marvelous hostess Michelle who is professional, polite, and very thoughtful. She will get your booking all squared away and answer any questions you may have.
Before Arrival
Before arriving at the Mid Mod Retreat, you must place a security deposit. It is refunded after your leave so long as there is no damage to the property. Michelle will send over the handbook, which is very thorough and helpful.
Tip: Swimsuits are required to be rinsed in warm water and air dryer before you get in the hot tub. Do this a day or two before you arrive so your suits are ready to go.
Arriving at Refreshing Mid Mod Retreat
The rental is in a quiet neighborhood, roughly five minutes from downtown. It is well labeled, making it easy to spot from the street. The driveway can hold up to 3 vehicles if you travel with friends or family. Arrange with Michelle how to handle keys. She met us at the property and even gave us a quick tour, so we knew where everything was. SO HELPFUL!

Stepping into this beautifully decorated home, you will notice that no detail has been missed. Little touches, from a welcoming sign for your family to special treats, will enhance your experience.
A cozy living room embraces guests as you gather for a movie night or to watch a few of your favorite shows. Grab one of the intriguing books off the shelf for a conversation starter, or finish up that last-minute work at the snug desk in the corner.
Three bedrooms make the house ideal for families or a couples retreat. There are two with queen beds and one with two twin beds. Our daughter quickly claimed the one with the twin beds and was pleasantly surprised to find children’s books inside the nightstand.
The mid-century bathroom is nicely remodeled and stocked with high-quality shampoos, soaps, and lotions.
A Fully Equipped Kitchen
Save money by fixing meals inside your rental! The Refreshing Mid Mod Retreat has a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare gourmet meals. Here are a few things I adore about the kitchen:
- A Keurig coffee maker with pods and creamer removes the hassle of packing coffee. Or utilize their French press, pour-over, and hand grinder.
- Everything was well labeled, making it easy to navigate.
- They provided oils and basic spices—another thing to not worry about forgetting to pack.
- A great variety of appliances and cookware were available.
- Plastic cups and kids tableware made serving my daughter a breeze.
Tip: Pay attention to the cute retro cookbook by the stove. My husband and I had a blast looking at all the old recipes. There are a various mid century touches throughout the home including a vinyl record player in the basement.
The Recreation Room
One of my daughter’s favorite spots was venturing to the rec room and yoga nook in the renovated basement. Families will love all the great activities, including an Xbox 360, a foosball table, and a variety of board games for the whole family.
We played a couple of hot games of Uno and Sorry before concluding our evening with a classic game of Candyland. Glance around the rec room to admire the framed vintage game boards that add to the room’s ambiance.
Tucked away in the corner is a yoga nook ideal for kick-starting your morning. My child found the ballet bar the most entertaining, while I took advantage of the yoga blocks for some much-needed stretching.
The Hot Tub
One of the top reasons the Refreshing Mid Mod Retreat is one of the best places to stay in Bowling Green is its amazing hot tub. The 2021 Master Spas Hot Tub is located in the enclosed breezeway for maximum privacy and year-round enjoyment. Guests can open the garage door to the backyard to enjoy the elements without being in them.
The LED candles in the breezeway with the hot tub are a nice touch. It set the mood for a romantic evening. Towels are conveniently located next to the hot tub, making it easy to dry off if you forget your towel.
I would be doing the hot tub an injustice if I didn’t mention how nice this model was. My sore muscles took advantage of the powerful jets, there was a waterfall, and it could easily hold four adults comfortably.
A Backyard Paradise
We could not take advantage of the backyard space during our visit because it was winter. However, during warm weather, the backyard is transformed into an oasis with hammocks, a fire pit, and plenty of outdoor seating.
